One Cup of Tea with Two Toasts

For the past few months, I had been telling myself that I needed to learn how to cook. I thought about it constantly but never actually took any action. One weekend night, I was extremely hungry. Instead of ordering food online, I finally decided to step into the kitchen and make something myself.

The moment I entered, I froze. I didn’t know where to begin. I searched countless recipe videos on YouTube, Googled quick dishes, and even asked ChatGPT for ideas. Then a simple thought struck me: Just start with something easy.

Poha came to mind. But when I checked the ingredients, I realized I didn’t have half of what I needed. Being new to the kitchen, I couldn’t even find the basic items. So I asked myself, What is the simplest thing I can make right now?

Tea.

I watched a quick tutorial and began preparing it. Strangely, as the tea boiled, my hunger slowly disappeared. Then I noticed two pieces of toast left in the packet. I paired them with my freshly made tea, and believe it or not, it was the most delicious tea I had ever had.

A few days later, I was talking to my friend Abhishek. He wanted to start preparing for government exams but was completely confused where to begin, what to study, which resources to use. I asked him, “What’s the most basic thing required for your exam?”
He said, “NCERT books.”
“Which class is the easiest to start with?”
“Class 6,” he replied.

Then I simply said, “Start from Class 6. While reading, you can figure out the syllabus, resources, books everything. But first, start.”

People often say that achieving the goal is the most important part. Others say the journey matters more. But in my opinion, the most important thing is simply starting. If you want to write, start by publishing one blog. If you want to get fit, begin with five push-ups today. If you want to be a content creator, turn on your selfie camera and record a one-minute video.

Whatever you want to do, begin with the simplest possible step.

Don’t overthink. Don’t worry about whether it will work out or what others might say.

Just start
